Timeline - Due date doesn't reflected in timeline

Hi,

I'm facing the issue, that looks like a bug to me. In Kanban project, I created the Epic. In Timeline I setup the Start date to some date. And in Timeline I setup also the Due date to different date. The start date value is correctly propagated into field Start date. But the end date value is not propagated into Due date field.

I tested it several times - I changed the value in field Due date and this is not propagated to the Timeline (Gant chart) view. I tried this behavior on Epic same as on Story and Task. I also add several other date fields like Target end, Extended due date etc just to confirm, that the value is not propagated into different field.

Can you please confirm, if this is bug or navigate me how to fix it?

Many thanks

Tomas

Hi Tomas - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Correct, the End Date and Due Date fields are different fields. You could create an automation rule that populates the End Date with the Due Date when the Due Date changes if you like.

Hi John,

thanks for answer, but it doesn't solve this issue. The issue is:

1. I have an Epic

2. The Start date value is reflected in Timeline View to the Start o the Epic.

3. The issue is, that the Due date value is not reflected to Epic Due date in Timeline View

Please let me know, how to fix it. Thanks

Please see the attached print screen - the Timeline view of Epic has Due date set. But the value in fields (in the right site of the page) Due date value is not set...

Did you populate the End Date? And did it change on the Timeline?

Hi John,

thanks for answer. Unfortunately, I don't see any End date field neither in my project, nor in any other project, nor in Custom fields. Can you please navigate me where to find it? Thanks

What kind of project are you using? Team-managed? Company-managed? Jira Software? Jira Work Management?

To be sure, I just added one new Custom field named End date and propagated it into the specified project, but of course, this did not work - there is no connection between the Custom field created by me and named End date and the Timeline chart.

Many thanks

Jira Software, Company-managed.

And there is nothing in the history for the issue when you modify the timeline view?

Good point, thanks for that, because we are getting closer. What I did here is, that I changed the Epic Timeline only. And here you can see the result - really, in History, there is a record, that Due date was updated. But the Field value is still the same with no change. So, it looks, there is some kind of discrepancy in fields. Any idea? Thanks

From my perspective, the connection between Due date and Timeline is broken. But have no idea how to fix it. My Due date field ID=10182...

Well, you would think that Due date is getting updated for the issue therefore, take the timeline out of it, it should still shows the value in the Due date field.

You definitely need Atlassian to explain that one. Please post back here with the resolution.

Final solution was simple, but I have no idea, how this happened, but must be fault on our site. The problem was, that I had one another Due date created as Custom field (if me or any other user is irrelevant now). So, when I changed the Due dates name in Custom fields, I was able to access the original Due date - the system one. So Thanks John again and also big thank to Vaishnavi from Jira team for support.

Great community delivers great solutions :)

I had a similar issue: my tasks were showing on the timeline with the dates of the sprint they were in. Setting the "due date" did not change the timeline info.

I discovered that in the Project's settings you have to choose between showing task scheduling based on the sprint dates or the issue date, as shown in the screenshot below.

I don't think the issue asked here is the same as the one I described here. But I hope this helps someone else facing the same issue!
