Since I'm unable to actually submit a bug report because I'm on a free cloud plan, I'm posting here in hopes that someone will see it.
Today I ticked a checkbox on a to-do item in an issue on Jira. The issue is a child issue. When I ticked the box, the issue refreshed its description which removed all of the information that had been there, and was replaced with the exact same text as the parent issue.
I was able to restore the description by viewing the ticket's history and copy-pasting the description from the last edit. I attempted to recreate the bug but on the second time, when I ticked the box, the description stuck.
Hi @me
Thanks for posting the video of this behavior. It looks like there is a bug in regards to the way Jira is trying to update that subtask. I created a support case on your behalf over in https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/23/JST-1105080
I was not yet able to find any existing bug reports that matched the behavior in your video, but I expect that our support team can investigate this further.

Hi @me ,
Welcome in the community! Do you have any Jira automation? Go to the Activity tab and check who / what updated your Description field.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
Hey @Kate Pawlak _Appsvio_ , I don't have any automation set up. In the Activity tab, it says that I was the one who updated it. I actually just now managed to recreate the bug on another ticket and captured a screen recording of it happening:
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
(I know it kind of looks like this video is edited together from multiple clips when it jumps, but I promise this is just one single screen capture that is unedited, aside from trimming unnecessary extra footage at the beginning)

This looks really weird. I was trying to recreate this bug on my instance but everything works correct.
I'll recommend you to go to Project settings > Automation and check if there is no automation configured. Also you can explore global automation rules: System > Global automation.
If you don't see any automation, I'll escalate this issue to Atlassian team.

Thanks for screens. I've already requested Atlassian team to look into this issue.
