Tickets not visible in board

Daniel Sedlacek December 7, 2023

I have plenty of tickets in 3 columns

There are no custom filters

Yet only one of the columns actually shows any tickets

Why?

The problem was in the Backlog view - only tickets in the Board group are displayed in the Board view, while ticket in the Backlog group are not displayed in the Board view regardless of the ticket's status or Board configuration.

It is a bad UX, Atlassian should improve it :)

@Daniel Sedlacek you can disable the backlog separate view and have the tickets with Backlog status showing on the board by following the below steps:

project settings from left panel

features

disable the backlog and map it properly under columns and statuses section

But I don't want to loose the backlog view - it is useful in different situations.

Hello @Daniel Sedlacek

This is the intended design for Team Managed project Kanban boards. The display of an issue on the Board view and Board list in the Backlog screen vs. in the Backlog list on the Backlog screen is based on the presence of the card in the Board list on the Backlog screen or in the Backlog list in the Backlog screen.

In Company Managed Kanban boards the board can be configured so that the Status is used to make that decision. Statuses can be mapped to the "Kanban Backlog" column and issues in those statuses will display in the Backlog list. Statuses mapped to the other columns will result in the issues in those statuses being displayed in the Board view.

I have no insight into why Atlassian made this design decision such that the two types of projects' Kanban boards behave differently.

Hi @Daniel Sedlacek

sorry for the delay to get back to you on this.

this issue is most likely due to permission setup on your project, are you the admin on this project?

there should be a panel on left side of the screen where you can click on project settings from the bottom then a new menu will show where you would need to check Access tab.

in case you dont have admin role on this project and/or you cant see the project settings button then you would need to check with your jira admin.

in case you have access to the above menus, then please check the role assigned to you in under Access tab and update accordingly.

please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Hi Antuan

yes, I am admin.

The problem was in the Backlog view - only tickets in the Board group are displayed on Board, while ticket in the Backlog group are not displayed on the board regardless of the ticket's status or Board configuration. It is a bad UX, Atlassian should improve it :)

Have a nice day!

Hello @Daniel Sedlacek

The suggestion to view the Board Settings > General page mentioned by @Antuan Sammak applies only to Company Managed projects. Based on your screen images, I can see that you are using a Team Managed project.

For the issues that are not showing on the board, but do show in the issue count on the Columns page, what are the Issue Types for those issues?

Subtasks will not display on the board unless you set the Group By option to Subtask. Epics also will not display on the board unless you set the Group By to Epics.

Hi @Daniel Sedlacek

can you please check in your board settings under general, there should be something called sub-filter...would be great to share a screenshot for that.

also can you please check the query that your board is using to retrieve tickets and pick one of them with Refinement status (not showing on board) and check the value of fix version field for that ticket.

last but not least, can you please confirm that all tickets you are trying to display in this board belong to the same project in Jira.

the above points should tell us the potential reason for the issue you are having, looking forward to your response.

Can you navigate me to "board settings under general"? I don't see it anywhere.

"check the query that your board is using to retrieve tickets" - where do I do this?

"all tickets you are trying to display in this board belong to the same project in Jira." - yes, they all belong to the UX-UI project.
