System field issue.

Hi,

We have a system field with drop down list. multiple projects are using this field and i have created a new project and want to use this system field as well. The issue is when i insert this system field in new project it does not show the drop down field but instead shows None and also not editable. However in other projects it shows the drop down list. Any idea what i am doing wrong. Thank you in advance!

BR,

Kousalya.

This sounds like your "system field" is actually a custom field, and one for which you have specified a context.

A custom field context, for a select-list type field, contains the list of options.

I suspect your context is different for the new project, and you've not added any options into the context.

You should check this by going to Admin -> Issues -> custom fields -> (your custom field) Contexts.

If I'm right on it being the context, you can either add options to the context for the new project, or change the existing context so that it includes the new project.

I have this listed under system field and not under custom field when i check it in issues. Also i checked the screens this system field is using and it uses all the screens and from the projects this is available in. Only for the new project it doesn't show the drop down list.

There is nowhere you can list the fields and see "system field", so I'm stuck on why you think the field is a system field and say you can see it listed as such.

If it is a system field, then it will have a common name.  If you can tell us what it is, then we can explain the way it is behaving (system fields have fixed names - summary, description, assignee, reporter, fix version and so on)

Glad you sorted it!

Was it the custom field contexts?
