Sum up rough estimation, original estimation and time tracking from sub tasks to parent task

Rafael Jan September 4, 2023

How can I configure Jira to sum up the rough estimation, original estimation and time tracking from sub tasks to parent task?

The default behavior is that only time tracking is summed up from sub tasks to parent task.

This situation is confusing, since I see in the parent task the original estimation of only the parent task, but in time tracking I see much more time since it sums up all sub tasks as well. The progress bar is visualization of tracking time divided by original estimation, so this bar also shows wrong status since tracking time sums up but original estimation is not...

The behavior should be that all fields of sub tasks sum up in the parent task, or none of them.

I think, for most people it will help if all fields sum up. This will give us good reason to use sub-tasks.

Hello @Rafael Jan

There is no configuration option to do that.

You would need to create Automation Rules to sum up the the values of the other fields in the subtasks and add that value to the field in the parent task.

The rule for summing up Original Estimate would look like this:

Understood.

Thank you very much @Trudy Claspill also for the example
