I have been cleaning up one of our Jira projects.

There are currently 128 cases under “Unresolved: by priority” that have been addressed/resolved, but are still in the unresolved status. I would like to resolve the majority of these issues but don't want watchers and reporters to get a bunch of notification emails.

Without making any edits to the notification schemes is there a way we could resolve these from the back end?

Did you try bulk transitioning? Normally for bulk operations, you will get an option to switch of notifications for that purticular operation!
