Hi,
I'm paying for my own Jira environment in which I store information about projects I do for clients.
I give clients access to this jira, but unfortunately I've made a typo in someone's name.
How can I change it? All I can find is a "suggest changes" button, and when I submit that information, a message pops up on the bottom left, stating; "Something went wrong"
What is this? I'm the administrator, why can't I update information of users that I created?
Hello Rob,
Thank you for getting in touch with Atlassian Community!
Since users' accounts have changed to "Atlassian account" in 2017, administrators can no longer change full names or emails.
It's only possible to change a full name if you have a verified domain.
As administrators can't choose or change a full name, the full name that appears to you was the own user that choose, so the user must go to id.atlassian.com and change this information.

Angélica
Wow, except that I can make them, define their names and emails, and give them access to everything, I can't edit it? Makes sense.. Not, lol.
So basically - the admin makes a mistake, and then the users have to solve it? Neato.
Maybe adding more javascript to the product would help :+)

Oh, the problem at hand: I don't think I can manage "gmail" or "outlook" or "hotmail". So this basically means that an admin of gmail, outlook or hotmail can change ALL the data for ALL users that have an email address there? Holy damn, thats very neatly thought out and highly secure!

Hi Rob,
Since Atlassian account was introduced, administrators can't choose or edit users' full name. So the full name will be set based on what the user already choose on id.atlassian.com or the full name will be their email until their first login on your instance, where they will set a password and a full name.
For example, I already have an Atlassian account and I added Batman as my full name, if you create an account for me on your instance, my full name will be Batman and only I can change that. If I don't have an Atlassian account, after you add me on your instance, on the first login I will be able to set a password and a full name, and by mistake, I type my name "Angelca" instead of "Angelica", also only I can change this on id.atlassian.com.
What I'm trying to say is that it was not your mistake because you don't have control of their full names.

Indeed you won't be able to verify the domain for those domains, but also they can't verify those domains on your instance in order to manage your users.

Hi Angelica Luz , i have tried going to id.atlassian.com but that does not get me any closer to changing the users Full name ..... this is quite frustrating ..... has an easier workaround been found yet

Hi Fana,
Administrators can change users' full name only if the domain is verified, otherwise, the users need to go to id.atlassian.com and login with their accounts to change their full names.
On Cloud, only for service desk customers administrators can change the full name, but for internal users with Atlassian account, this is not possible, only if you have a verified domain.

Coming in from 2024 and this is still very, very silly.
I get it - bob@gmail.com can be an Atlassian user on my instance, your instance, anyone's instance. So if we call him Robert and everyone calls him Bob, I can't rename him.
But not giving me the ability to change that display name in my org is ridiculous.

I don't think this works anymore. I logged in to id.atlassian.com and I could not even change my own name. Its really annoying as many email names do not have the users full name. Very confusing. We've had some people leaving to Lxxxxx for more agility (not just for this username reason but many others).
