I've been left with a JIRA project in a questionably maintained system that's something of a mess. This project has over 50 issue types, of which only 6 are used.
How do I update the project configuration to disable the unused issue types? I've clicked everywhere I can think of in the project settings and I don't see any clue here.
Does Atlassian provide documentation on this? Why is it not something that is linked from a relevant project configuration page?
If your project is a company-managed project, you should be a Jira administrator to edit the issue type scheme which allows us to specify which issues are to be present in the project
Please note if you need to remove the issue type from the project, issues for the respective issue type should not be present in the project
Please follow the guide here
If your project is a team-managed project, you should be able to delete the issues type if there are no issues found for the issue type
Thanks,
Pramodh
Go to you project settings --> Issues --> click types
In the newly opened page, under "Actions" --> select "Edit Issue type"
Drag the unwanted issue types from column "Issue Types for Current Scheme" to "Available Issue Types" and click save.
If the removed Issue type has any tickets, then in next screen you can move them to required Issue types and status.

Hi! I'm raising a concern regarding this topic. How about the issue types with historical data that I don't want to lose? I have an issue type that when I want to remove it like you said a red message pops up saying that if I remove the issue type I'll lose all the historical data. How can I make that people are not able to create new tickets with the issue type and maintain the historical data?
