Random user being set as Default Reporter

Zac Jury October 4, 2023

For the longest time, every new ticket that is added to our JIRA backlog has our colleague 'Richard Jones' set as the default reporter even though he rarely ever briefs in the tickets.

Is there anyway to change this so that the actual user who briefed in the ticket is selected as the default reporter?

Example attached shows Richard Jones as the default reporter, when it should be a lady called 'Bree Payton-Teale'

Thanks,
Zac.

Hello @Zac Jury

Jira is not setting the Reporter field spontaneously. It has been told to do so. There are multiple ways that customization could have been added by your Jira Administrator. Have you consulted with them about changing that?

It could be built into the workflow to set the Reporter field to Richard.

There could be an automation rule or script that is changing the reporter field after the issue is created.

You are going to have to work with your Jira Administrator to find out what process is causing that in order to figure out how to undo it.

Hey @Trudy Claspill, thanks so much!

Are you able to tell me how I can find out who my JIRA Administrator is? I am very new to JIRA and how it all works, and have literally just learned things as I've gone on :)

That all makes sense, do you know if there is a way to make the automation rule set as whoever is entering the brief?

Thanks so much,
Zac.

By default Jira will set the Reporter field to the person who is creating the issue. If you work with an admin to find out what is overriding that and get that removed, then you don't have to do anything more.

To find your admin I recommend that you:

1. Ask the person who told you about or helped you get access to Jira in the first place.

2. Ask your manager.

3. Contact the technical support team for your company.
