Problem with issue Restrictions for issues in a Team Managed project

Ulf April 4, 2024

The issue Restrictions for issues in a Team Managed project in jira cloud can't be used anymore in our jira-instance. The "lock symbol" is there but a click on it doesn't open any window to set / edit the restricions.
(for issues which are unristricted as well as for issues which are restricted manually or by default team managed project settings)

We can exclude any problems with the permissions as standard role "Administrator" and "Member" also can't use this anymore in all our team managed projects.
(it also don't work anymore for jira-admins with all avaiable jira and project-roles).

We tried different computers and browsers.

We considered https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/How-to-enable-restriction-for-issue-ticket-of-Jira-Work/qaq-p/2243301

Unfortunately, this problem is currently severely limiting cross-team collaboration. We would therefore be grateful for quick help also from Atlassian Support. Thanks and KR!

Hello @Trudy Claspill ,

many thanks for your response, but this is unfortunately not the solution.

As mentioned in my original post it also doesn't work anymore for users in team managed project, who have the "Administrator" project role created by Jira.
This "Administrator" role is created by Jira, thus can't be edited, and has always the permission "Restrict any issue".

Hello @Ulf

In order to have options to change restrictions on an issue a user must be assigned to a project Role that has the Restrict any issue permission:

For the users who are not able to get a response from clicking on the padlock, check which project Roles they are in and check if those Roles have that permission.

Does this affect only one Team Managed project?

Have you made any configuration changes to your Team Managed project since the last time the functionality worked properly?

Be advised that this is a user community, not the contact method for reaching Atlassian Support. If you want to work directly with Atlassian Support on your issue you will need to open a support case at

Thanks for your response!

This functionallity is in our jira cloud instance only available in team managed projects and exists for all of them, many of them not changed in the last month.

Thanks for the hint for the officla contact channel, I will use this.

Ulf

It would be helpful if you report back here what you learn from Atlassian support. If others encounter the same issue, having information about your resolution will help them.
