Portfolio for Jira - Adding comments/Notes to the scope columns

Aishwarya November 30, 2018

Is there a way for me to add comments or notes as a column in the cope of Portfolio for Jira? As we use our portfolio for the purposes of planning, the notes section will help retain some to-dos and comments for a specific Jira ticket.

Hi Aishwarya,

If you're using Portfolio for Jira Server I would recommend that you add a custom text area field and then configure Portfolio to display that custom field.

You can find information on adding custom fields to Jira here (you may need to select the correct version for your Jira instance).

You can find information on adding custom fields from Jira into Portfolio here (again, you might need to change the version).

Once you have added the custom field you will be able to display your custom field as a column and you will then be able to add notes to it. These notes will also be saved to the Jira issue when you commit your changes.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. We have Jira for  Cloud. I added a  custom field 'Notes' that is now a part of my scope column. There is one restriction though, I can only add a single line text box.

Thanks

Hi Aishwarya,

In Jira server it is possible to configure the type of custom field to be a text area rather than a text field. I'm not sure if this is possible in Jira cloud though - definitely worth checking though,

Dave
