Performing backup of jira database WITHOUT global admin to projects

Our Org-admins need to take backups of Confluence and Jira databases on a regular basis. We are talking cloud here. They do not need (and should not have) access to project data nor content in spaces for security and sensitivity reasons.

The only way I can give these persons access to the global backup on both products, is to add the users to jira-admins-<<site>> and confluence-admins-<<site>> groups. This leads to them getting the global administer-<<product>> permission, which of course cannot be overrided at project level.

So is there way to configure cloud apps to accomplish this? Ideally, Org-admins should be able to perfom these actions (and more) from admin.atlassian.com, rather than the individual project sites.

I understand this might possible i EAP program, which we are not part of and are reluctant to enter into (not sure I it's at all possible on a standard license?)

I know that org-admins can always bump up their own permissions to get this access anyway, but that is beside the point.

Hello @Stephan Grubbe Sølby ,

In this case, if you don't want to give extra permissions, you can try a third-party backup tool, like GitProtect backup & DR software for Jira Software, JWS, JSM, and Confluence (soon). With our solution you can set up roles for backup performance, a system administrator, restore operator, backup operator, or just a viewer (you can read more about GitProtect backups management and permissions here: https://gitprotect.io/features/management/centralized-management.html#multiple-admin-and-user-accounts ).

The backup solution provides automated backups, full data coverage, multiple storage compatibility, unlimeted retention, replication between multiple backup storage destinations, ransomware protection, and restore and Dissster Recovery Technology, including point-in-time restore, granular recovery, Cloud-to-Cloud or Cloud-to-local restore, recovery to the same or a new Jira account.

You can learn more about GitProtect backups and try the solution free on Atlassian Marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1228719/gitprotect-io-backups-for-jira-cloud?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

If you have any questions reagrding backups and its permissions, you can always schedule a custom demo to learn more: https://calendly.com/d/3s9-n9z-pgc/gitprotect-live-demo?month=2024-05

Hope you will find this answer helpful,

Regards,

Daria

Daria,

Thanks for getting back. Unfortunately, your pricing is way too steep even for a small organization as ours. It would increase our yearly cost with 50%.

If your organization is too small and has less than 10 users (Jira), it's possible to use GitProtect backups for free. As the solution is free for up to 10 users on Atlassian Marketplace.

Regards,

Daria
