Hi
I would like to be able to paste formatted text (eg: from an email) into a comment against a JIRA issue, but it looses all of it's formatting. I don't want to have to go through the text and manually convert it to the JIRA markup.
BTW- I have Wiki Style Renderer turned on
Thanks
David
It is not possible at the moment. We should vote for this suggestion https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-8943 and wait :)
Thanks for pointing me to this. Hopefully we will have a solution soon (I’ve noted that the requested was created in 2006 ....)

I'd like to believe in it too

I'd be happier if they'd keep a "Markdown mode" in the editor, like they used to have. There are MYRIAD copy/paste issues with their new editor, and I hate the way their WYSIWYG editor works.

I know this was answered a while back, but think there is more to add...
We're using JIRA 7.11+ now and have found that when in visual mode, rich-text editor fields (issue description and comment) DO handle pasting of formatted text to some extent. For some email content this works very well and can be a real time-saver.
Atlassian indicate the issue referenced above was resolved in v7.2:

We've had some issues and find some pasted content doesn't render as expected - here's a selection of related issues for JIRA Server:

Go ahead and vote for them if you want Atlassian to work on this area of the product.

This really should be made to work. I had to copy paste from an Outlook email into a Google doc and then link to it from the JIRA issue! This was because JIRA completely loses the formatting of tables in the email on paste.

For me this is a major annoyance not being able to paste rich text (or even SQL) to JIRA descriptions. I mean, having a working WYSIWYG editor would be great in the first place (I have heard of tools that accomplished this). But at least having the possibility to use other tools for WYSIWYG and then pasting to JIRA would be some kind of a welcome workaround. Make JIRA great again, and please fix this.

Please fix this, it is soooooo annoying!!
i just want to be able to paste content in comments without losing their original formatting from where i copied the content.
very simple capability i would have thought!!
p.s. love the product for every other reason :-)

Is this one fixed? As for now I still see pretty much garbage if copy/paste from SSMS. It cannot even identify carriage returns and tabs properly.

It's so bad on our instance that it literally tells me it cannot paste and I need to retry or edit again. Yes, pasting code, into a CODE BLOCK, breaks it. ... basic SQL even.

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I was also disappointed to find I could not paste markdown directly into a Jira comment. However, today I discovered that if I copied the rendered markdown (it was in a preview pane in PhpStorm) the formatted text pasted beautifully into a Jira comment! It was perfect. I don't know if it matters, but this was on a Mac.
