OnDemand vs. Download: Expanded differences

Shane Huesdon March 18, 2012

My company is considering the switch to Jira and there is high interest in the SaaS (OnDemand) solution. What are the main differences, especially around customization and plugins? The main site has bullet lists but they are not very comprehensive.

OnDemand is a uniform, controlled, and stable envrionment. It is maintained and upgraded automatically. With all that in place, there are some restrictions on how much you can customize it. I would recomend reading two pages on the limitations of OnDemand (linked below). With the download version, you can do ANYTHING you want to it, but you are responsible for maintence, upgrades, plugin installs, plugin maintence/compatability, etc. etc. (of course, you have our great support team to help you).
