New default workflow for every project

Hi,

we customized the default workflow. Now we would like use the new workflow for every starting project automatically.

With many projects it takes too much time to change the workflow from Jira default to our version on every single project. Is it possible to set our workflow on default or is there a smooth workaround for assigning it automatically? Thank you for your help.

Hello Annette,

just create a "Template Project" using the default workflow.

Now, when you create a new project just use > Create Project > Create with shared configuration.

Thank you! It#s a good idea to create a template project which we can always share. I just have to keep in mind that every change affect every associated project.

Yes, thats important - every change will affect every associated project. best practice: setup a bundle of template projects!

Hello Annette,

JIRA 7 onwards you can select the option

"create with shared configuration" while creating the project, this would copy workflow scheme, screen scheme, field, notification scheme of the mentioned project into the created project.

Please read more about it here-

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver070/defining-a-project-749382822.html

About shared configurations:

  • When you create a new project from a template, that project is created with its own fresh set of schemes. These schemes are:
    • a permission scheme
    • a notification scheme
    • an issue security scheme
    • a workflow scheme
    • an issue type scheme
    • an issue type screen scheme
    • a field configuration scheme
  • Sometimes you may wish to share schemes among your projects, so that editing one scheme changes that scheme in several projects at once.
  • When you are creating a new project, select Create with shared configuration to select an existing project and to use that project's schemes. Note that when you're sharing schemes, any change to the scheme will affect all the projects using that scheme.

Thank you, that helps me a lot!

Please accept/upvote answer if it works. thanks.

This is, in theory, a good solution except for the fact that it creates a project WITHOUT a kanban board and the process for creating a new board for projects like these is cumbersome. Not sure if this is what Atlassian intended or not but it's a bummer.
