Hello,
We are wondering if there are any general recommendations/known issues in the area of navigation controlling with a mouse on Greenhopper screens. We found it to be quite difficult and painful to operate due to the following issues:
- Mouse clicks on inline links (say, issue IDs on the Planning/Task board) sometimes do not produce any response, have to be repeated several times to have any effect
- Mouse behavior inside the drop down menus (such as action menu for an issue) is so erratic that we generally try to avoid their use completely: mouse clicks either do not produce any effects or, worse, invoke the actions from the wrong (neighboring) menu items
- Drag&drop operation for ranking the issues is also unreliable: in 50% of the cases dropping results in the position shifted in relation to the target
Jira version: 4.4.1 Greenhopper version: 5.7.4
OS: Windows XP, SP3
Browsers: Firefox 3.5 and higher
Mouse: Microsoft wireless and PS/2
Thank you for your suggestion. I am trying it now with FF 8 - so far mouse response seems to be better. Unfortunately, in general, this is cannot be accepted as a practical solution. We are working in an enterprise with strict rules about software installation (including browsers) and its upgrades. We have other web based enterprise apps that work only with IE and even one that is not compatible with newer versions of FF - that's why automatic upgrade of FF is prohibited. Besides, newer versions of FF are more resource hungry and in many cases deliver poorer performance
If FF 3.5 and 3.6 are practically not recommended for GH, then this probably spells an end to our experiments with it.
FF8 is no better. Still the same issues with action menu - clicks either don't produce any response or produce wrong responses, sometimes even not related to any actions in the list (once pressing 'Delete' caused an issue to change its rank in the list). Also observed freezing over during redraw upon changing the context - something not observed before. May or may not be related to browser version
The issue with explanding/collapsing sub-tasks during the Planning/Task Board redraw (registered in another GH ticket) is definitely present, constanty being reproduced. Cleaning cookies/cache (recommended in the ticket) had no effect

The most likely culpret here is Firefox 3.5. FF v.3.x is known to deliver very poor performance in Greenhopper and was actually cut from the list of supported platforms (IE 7 is also not recommended for performance reasons). Additionally, there are additional issues with Firefox 3.6: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Caveats+in+using+Firefox+3.6.0+with+JIRA .
Is there any chance you can test it out in a newer version of Firefox or Chrome?
