Our server-hosted Jira has been using Samba AD and local groups for authentication for the past two years. We are now moving to Microsoft AD.
We are concerned that our history is tied to the user ID that is linked to Samba. When our users start to login with Microsoft AD, how will we transfer their history from the Samba AD user to the Microsoft AD user? Or does Jira have a mechanism to handle this?
I have seen the KB articles to migrate a local group between User Directories but our Samba username format is firstname.surname and Microsoft Active Directory is username format is FirstnameLa so essentially two different local users in Jira?
Any pointers will be much appreciated.
Welcome to the community!
In order to maintain the user history in Jira, the username has to be identical.
You could either ensure that the usernames in the new user directory are the same as the existing directory or rename the users from the existing directory to match the new directory ( before adding the new directory )
I hope this helps.
there are two attributes relevant for user mapping:
User Attribute Name:
This is sAMAccountName for MS AD and might be different on Samba AD
To track user renames the
User Unique ID Attribute
is used. This is mapped to objectGUID on MS AD.
I would suggest that you try some mapping configs on a test/staging server, to check out the results.
