Making project inactive?

Is there a way to make a project inactive?  We have old projects that are no longer valid and we do not want them to be visible when doing issue searches, etc.  We cannot delete the project as we need the historical information, but do not need it to "muddy" the water with current issue searches.

Create a permission scheme that doesn't give anyone any kind of permission and apply it to the project. I suggest also changing the category to Retired.  JIRA administrators will still be able to see them and allow browse permission if needed for historical information.
