Making 'Work Log' mandatory with a minimum of required character

We have Log Work field required, but there is always someone who skips it by putting a single character in the description, such as - _ or a simple space.

Is It possible to set a minimum of characters, to prevent anyone from putting a description of 1 single character?

It seems like the best solution for you would be validation that only allowed for numbers -- and therefore excluded things like the -_ or the simple space.

I don't think preventing anyone from putting a description of 1 single character would work. Enforcing a 2 character minimum would rule out the possibility of entering something as simple as just "1", for logging a single hour.

The other thing to consider here is possibly better training or re-explaining to the team why Work Log was required in the first place; especially for those entering in those unexpected characters.
