Looking to show user time spent across projects

We have 3 or 4 projects that are worked by the same users. I'd like to find a way to show their time usage aggregated into a single graph/report (and be able to show it broken down by project or issues in projects).

Either something already in Jira or an add on I can use would be fine.

Hi @Dennis_H ,
You can access the 'Workload Pie Chart' on the Jira dashboard to view worklogs. Simply choose a project or a saved filter to see the total time associated with the relevant worklogs.

If you're looking for more in-depth insights beyond the standard features, there are several add-ons available in the Atlassian Marketplace that offer advanced time tracking and reporting options. One of these is WorklogPRO.

WorklogPRO offers a hierarchical grouping feature that enhances how you view and analyze work logs. This feature allows you to categorize and view the hours logged by users at various levels, such as by user, project, issue, or issue type.
You can view your categorized data in a timesheet format, or you can visualize your data using different charts thanks to the pivot report feature.

Hi @Dennis_H

You can use Jira Rest API's to pull this data and build on your own custom solution. Or if you would be interested in a mktplace app , take a look at

Worklogs Time Tracking & Timesheets

You can easily view time entries for multiple issues day wise grouped by in a single view. The app allows to filter/Categorize/Group your worklogs data and a timesheet view too to track individual time spent. And what's more it can be easily added as a dashboard gadget

Hello @Dennis_H,

I am Marlene, product manager of Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards.

Your use case is possible with our Jira cloud app. After installation, you can simply

  • Add the "Quick Issue Statistics" gadget to your dashboard
  • Configure it with a filter that contains all projects the user is working in
  • As "Field" select "Project"
  • As values shown add the time field you use to track the workload of the user

On top of that you can also add a Quick Controller gadget, to filter the gadget e.g. per issue type, assignee, or any other Jira field.

If you want to check out Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards without installation, you can visit our demo dashboards.

This is how the configured gadget could look like:

Hello @Dennis_H ,

If you are looking for a high-quality, affordable way to view and manage the work hours of users within the project, then on behalf of SolDevelo development team, I would like you to recommend our app called "Worklogs – Time Tracking and Time Reports".

image.png

Worklogs allows you to precisely filter the company’s logged work with a wide range of filters such as users, issues, projects, issue types, labels and more. Additionally, you can display the data for a specific date range with a breakdown by day, week, month or year.

Moreover, you can export the reports to a spreadsheet file, share them by a link to other Jira users and view them in a form of a Pie and Bar chart:

It's also worth noting that the app uses Jira's native time tracking and time logs, meaning that any time tracked previously with this method before its installation will be present in Worklogs.

If you haven't tested our app yet, I invite you to do so – it looks like it should meet your requirements.

You can also book a demo with one of our experts and we will showcase the app and answer any questions you might have, or you can contact us through the portal here.

Regards,
Tomasz

Hi @Dennis_H

You might consider using time-tracking apps that in most cases have a customizable report of tracked time on issues.

I can recommend our Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets Pro, or Free app which offers you the possibility to review timesheets and create reports that can be configured in various ways using break-down and filtering options.

Using timesheets, you can create a report and filter it based on several options including, projects, issue types, issues labels, or other fields. You can choose a range for a whole year and break down the data by chosen fields. This information can be also exported to Excel files.

Please find below the sample of how the timesheet looks like:

If you have any questions, you can contact us at our help center.

Cheers!

HI @Dennis_H

Is time writing used on issues by these users?

To see worked hours time writing should be used, this is the way to measure time spent on issues by users.

Yes each user tracks time on the issue they are working on.

Hi @Dennis_H

Ootb there are the reports like;

  • Workload Pie Chart Report
Shows the relative workload for assignees of all issues for a project or filter.
  • User Workload Report *
Shows how much work a user has been allocated, and how long it should take.

For a specified user, you'll be able to see the number of unresolved issues assigned to the specified user, and the remaining workload, on a per-project basis.

But based on your question I don't think these will help you out.

So this would result in the usage of a time writing app from the marketplace.

Check this blog article from 2023 on time tracking apps and choose what would fit your needs.
