Howdy team -
I am trying to figure out how to export a report that includes the 'Work Description' field that shows up when a user logs time against a Jira - they can enter a description of the time....I need to know how to extract that in a report but cannot seem to find that field when I expoert everything. Is this field hidden or something like this?
Thanks!!
Hello @Maureen Gilchrist
Are you using Jira's native Log Work option or are you using a time tracking third party app like Tempo Timesheets?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
If you retrieve the issues in the Advanced Issue Search screen, and then use the Export option to export all fields to CSV, you will get the export of each Work Log entry including its associated comment.
Each Work Log entry in the export will include the comment, the time the work log was created, and the amount of time entered in the worklog.
Example:
Log Work | Log Work |
log work comment;06/Jun/23 10:17 AM;5ed***;3600 | another log work comment;06/Jun/23 10:20 AM;5ed***;3600 |
There are no native reports to give you just a list of the work log entries. If you want that you will need to look at using the REST API or a third party app.

Thanks - I was looking more for a global extract, not on one issue.
Sounds like this isn't doable native so I'll pursue another avenue.
Thanks all!!

With the Advanced Issue Search screen you can select up to 1000 issues.

Hi,
I want to give more details for this answer. If you don't have too many worklogs, and ready to perform some cleanup in the Excel, you can use build-in issue export feature.
Filters -> Advanced Issue Search. Use a JQL to filter issues containing worklogs, you can use worklogDate > 2023-01-01 or any other JQL options. After this, use "Export Issues" -> "Export Excel CSV (all fields)". Each issue will be in a separate row and there will be a column for every worklog on the issue. Each worklog contains "worklog comment";"worklog date";username;"effort time in seconds".
If you need more control, you can use one of the timesheet apps in the marketplace. We have our own app, WorklogPRO which can generate this report and lots of other reports related to worklogs.

This is very helpful, finally something that help me decipher half of the log work column entry of 'ckewvcwbjcwlieucgbckje'. However, I still don't understand how to decipher the worklog author highlighted below. Any suggestions?

Found a way using excel formulas as every user has a diff code assigned to them

You can try using Marketplace Apps like Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets free or PRO.
Clockwork Timesheet provides you with a visible report with all users' Worklogs and descriptions alongside other exciting features on the Timesheet.
You simply need to break down the timesheet by Worklogs, and you would get each Worklog with the description.
You can also export this report as a CSV file where the description field is also available.
