Jira Source Code

Artur Jarosz February 9, 2021

Hi!
Right now I'm using Jira Cloud for my project, but I'd like to customize few things. As far as I know, you cannot access the source of Jira Cloud. But I don't see an option for getting a license for the server, only for the cloud. Is there a way to get a licence for standard jira, download it, and mess with code?

Atlassian stopped sales of new server licences near the beginning of February, as it's going away in 2024.

So, in other words, it is not possible for me to get the source code of Jira, right?

If you'd bought a licence before Feb 2nd, or you buy a Data Center licence, you would be able to get the source code.  As it stands now, you'll need to ask Atlassian directly for a copy.

But I'm curious - why do you want the code for Jira server if you're using Cloud?

Or if you're thinking of moving off Cloud, why are you looking for Server code when it's going away?

I'm using the cloud but just out of my curiosity I wanted to try to mess with a few things (for example I wanted to add a field that sums up time for all tasks in Epic, and shows it on the Epic screen). Nothing that I can't live without, but yet, just wanted to try. Cloud is fine, but for me, regressing from the point that a company was able to modify product is not a good way to go.

You can do that on Cloud, although you would need to write an app to do it yourself.

If you have Scriptrunner for Jira Cloud, see https://library.adaptavist.com/entity/automate-epic-custom-field-sum
