Issue with losing view of in progress issues when closing sprint

When I complete a sprint while there are still "in progress" tasks, I lose the view of that sprint and the associated tasks within that sprint in the backlog view. I can eventually find the issues by going into the issues area but I was hoping that I could somehow see the tasks that were left in each sprint bucket and then just move them into the next sprint. Is there a way to do this?

Hello @Kristine Gemici

From the Reports section of the agile board you can review the sprint Burndown Report to see all the issues that were in the sprint, which includes a section for incomplete issues.

Also, when you click the Complete Sprint button you should be getting a pop-up that tells you how many issues where completed and how many issues are incomplete, including an option to move the incomplete issues to the backlog, a new sprint, or an existing sprint.

Hi @Kristine Gemici - I agree with what @Trudy Claspill said.

The reason you are given a choice as to what to do with the incomplete issues is because in Scrum - in theory - each Sprint should/could have a new and different Sprint goal, which needs a possibly different set of issues to achieve.  Jira then gives you a choice of whether to return the incomplete issues to the Backlog for consideration in a later Sprint, or to just designate them to another Sprint (such as the next Sprint) when Completing the current Sprint.
