We have certain ticket templates we like to use, and it would be helpful if the description fields of certain ticket types auto-populated our templates so that our DEVs don't have to copy & paste the template into their tickets manually.
There is a plugin - Issue Templates for Jira - that will allow you to create pre-populated templates that you can use.
Two other alternatives:
1) You can populate the description field with the text that you want in a Create post-function. This won't let the Requester populate it before creation. You would have to update the ticket after creation with the information.
2) You can use ScriptRunner for Jira and implement a behavior to pre-populate the description field.
I'll give ScriptRunner a try and see if that will work for us, thank you!
