Hi,

I know that this question has nothing to do with any of the products on here, but more with the way this answers.atlassian.com website works.

The matter is that every time I search for something (literally ANYTHING) with loads of different keywords (and the tag [JIRA]), one of the first answers that always pops up is "What is the best solution to start an email thread thru Jira with an Jira issue 'reporter' who does not have a Jira account?"...

This question or answer have nothing to do with my issue and I'd like to request the option to be able to block certain questions as not being relevant to my queries.

Also, when looking for "[JIRA] rename" I will get "answers" that in no respect have anything to do with renaming. They don't even mention the word "rename" anywhere on the page.

Am I the only one with this? Or is anyone else experiencing this same issue?

thanks,

Jacques.

I've got a couple answers for this:

  1. First, it's clear that the search needs major improvement. We just rolled out a search improvement using the search API (https://answers.atlassian.com/api/search/), and will roll it into the main UI in the next few weeks. I'll post an update when it's out. I know people have given up...
  2. There's also 'ignored tags', which is different from what you're talking about, but might be useful. If you add tags you're not interested in, the results won't show in the home page.

When we fix the search it'll have an advanced UI where you can add complex search queries - user, And/Or/Not, title, etc:

hi Jeremy,

thanks for your answer. I'll be looking forward to the new search features in the next roll-out. You colleagues of the website https://plugins.atlassian.com/search/advanced might be inspired by your idea, as it would be great to have these options there too (see: https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/43377/plugins-website-where-have-the-categories-gone)

thanks!

Have you read this https://answers.atlassian.com/faq/#search

I think you should try to use AND in your search (default is OR so you get all answers that contain '[JIRA]' tag OR 'rename' word)

Worryingly, most people I know who search this site have given up and use google (with the site: trick) instead of the built-in search. That tells me the interface needs working on...

True, searching is not very usable or friendly... but for simple queries works with the AND trick.

I agree that knowing google search "tricks" is a better way to get proper results, and then you really don't need to limit yourself to answers.atlassian.com :)
