Is there a way to create a document from multiple issues

phil huynh April 13, 2017

I want to grab specific data from an issue and its related subtasks and put them all in a word document.  Is there a way to do that? or and add-on? I only see things for getting info from a single issue and or a list.

Hi Phil,

You can use Xporter for JIRA to export issues data to Word, Excel, PDF, RTF and other types. With this add-on you are able to define what you want to get printed and how data is printed.

The add-on provides 2 workflow post functions:

  • Create a document locally, remotly or/and attatch it to the current issue
  • Send a document by e-mail

Also, with this awesome add-on you can set up scheduled reports and send them to a remote file server like FTP, attach them to a Conflunce page and send tehm by e-mail.

All these feature in on add-on.

Cheers,

Rui Rodrigues.

Hi Phil- You can create a Word doc from multiple issues from the Search screen. Once you have a search showing the issues you want, you can export using Export > Word.

If an issue exported in this way has sub-tasks, the issue details in the Word document will include a 'Sub-Tasks' section, showing some details of the associated sub-tasks (Key, Summary, Status, etc).

If you want more details about the sub-tasks to show, I can think of three options:

1. Do a search that returns the issue AND it's sub-tasks, and export that. For example, this would get ISSUE-1 and all it's sub-tasks:

key = ISSUE-1 or parent = ISSUE-1 ORDER BY issuetype

2. Check the Markekplace for export related add-ons, that allow more control over your exports to Word (or maybe PDF?).

3. Take a look at this old suggestion about improvements to the Word export functionality in JIRA. It does mention a possible work-around, but it doesn't sound simple:
