Is there a way to change the default workflow for new projects?

Greg Grinberg June 19, 2013

I have a new workflow that I would like to use on all newly created JIRA projects. Is there any way to either change the default workflow scheme or modify the default workflow to support my new workflow?

If I understand https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-9363 correctly this is impossible but this seems like a somewhat obvious feature to me.

As of now the only way I see to use a custom workflow is:

1. create project

2. go to project administration

3. Change the workflow scheme associated with that project and migrate the issues (happens automatically since there should be no issues)

Dear Gregory,

I am afraid that at the moment it may not be possible for us to set a custom 'Default Workflow Scheme' in JIRA at the current moment. I have verified this behavior on my test installation just now.

Since this is the case, a possible workaround for us is to configure the created project to use the custom workflow scheme after the creation of the project. This should be similar with the steps that you mentioned.

And since JIRA doesn't ship with this feature at the moment, I would suggest you to start following the related feature request (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-9363) for future updates on the matter, and feel free to drop your comment if you have any further feedback on the matter.

Though it's not much, I hope that the clarification provided helps!
