Is there a way to change project type label in JIRA 7.X?

Jorge Blanco April 5, 2017

Hi:

In our JIRA Software instance we have two types of projects: software and business.

We would like to change the text/label associated to the project types. For example, change "Software" with "Engineering". Is this possible?

The problem is not of functionality, it is simply aesthetic. We make several types of projects using JIRA Software, not just Software. We would simply like to change the text so that instead of Software another literal appears.

Maybe there is some properties file or something similar in which this is configured and the literal can be modified?

Regards.

Jorge

Hello Jorge,

I get the same questions frequently from my JIRA users. These Project Types are built in to JIRA. The only options are "Business," "Software," and "Service Desk" (dependent on your licenses).

I do agree that the phrase "Project Type" may give users the wrong impression; People wanting to use the features of JIRA Software, like Kanban, but are not necessarily a Software team still need to have their projects categorized as Software. I would like this to be editable too but I don't know of any way to override this through modifying files.
