Is there a way to add a comment to an issue using jira cloud?

I use gmail,

I can place an issue on my calendar but not sure how to comment on it.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The most simple way to do this is to set up an email handler, so that any email sent to Jira will comment on an issue or create a new one (if you do not refer to an issue in the subject of an email, Jira will create a new issue)

If that's not right for you, then you'll need to do a bit of coding - use the REST API to comment on the issues.
