Is it possible to add people as a viewer in Jira (Free Plan), alongside administrators?

Hi there,

Is it possible to add more people as a viewer in Jira (Free Plan), alongside administrators? We now have 10 active users who are automatically added as an administrator. Thus, we already reached the limit of 10 active users. Is it still possible to add more people, but with viewer rights? So, they can only see the project board, backlog and timeline, without the permission to edit anything. Or does that also add to the 10 active users which we already have?

And if the aforementioned is indeed possible, how can I add more people to our project board as a viewer? Looking forward to your reply.

No. On a free plan, all users have full admin permissions and you cannot configure permissions.

I see, thanks for your reply Walter! I was curious to know as I saw this community post went by = Solved: Grant View only access free of charge (atlassian.com)

So, it is not possible for a free plan to add someone with view only access? The steps mentioned in the community post above (see link) states there is a way.

I am the author of the answer you are referencing. Please notice that the post was for a paid plan (Standard) rather than the Free plan. Also note that my answer talks about changing the Permissions for projects. Customizing Permission is not supported for Free plans as per this documentation.

So, no, for the Free plan there is no native way to grant View only access to users without also granting those users licensed access to your instance.

You could look for a third party app that would enable you to share the Jira information with other users without granting them licenses.
