As you all may know, you can't set a field to be Required unless it's okay to be visible in the customer portal.
So I have a field (Inight Object) that is required to be filled-out before the ticket can be closed. In other words, status can't transition to Closed if that specific field (Insight Object) is Empty. Anyone?
My experience with Jira is not that rich, but maybe these steps could help you. I think you should set up validators for your workflow status.
1. Go to Issues and select Workflow connected with your project.
2. Edit Workflow and in the diagram click the transition.
3. There are some settings. Select validators and click add. One option is "Field Required Validator" = Field must not be empty during the transition.

@cosorio Yes, you are right. Other possible way is permission settings in customer portal. I am afraid that only option is forbid closing issues to all customers in portal. But this is not what you want, isn´t it?
I didn´t find any option in customer portal which is connected with value in field.
Maybe someone else helps you.
