In what coding language are Jira apps built?

Gonçalo Pereira August 11, 2022

My team and I want to do a Hackathon and a theme we are thinking about implementing is "24 hours to build Jira app/addon".

However, I have no idea what the coding language recommended to build the Jira apps is.

Any ideas?

Kind regards

Hi!

You can use:

  • The Forge platform which uses NodeJS (javascript)
This is the most recent platform to develop custom apps and recommended by Atlassian. You don't need your own infrastructure to run the apps in.
It is definitely the easier way, certainly if you want to build something quickly
  • Atlassian Connect
You do need your own infrastructure to run them but you can use any programming language.
There are frameworks but only 2 of them are officially supported: Node.js Express and Spring Boot. Here is an overview of frameworks.

Good luck!
