I want to know what was the total number of open tickets by end of each month for my project. For example, let's say the total number of open tickets was 10 in Jan, 20 in Feb....100 in Dec. Is there any way to get such a report?

Welcome to the community!
You could use the built-in project reports, or you could use a dashboard gadget called "Created vs resolved", based on a project (or JQL filter).
You would set it to monthly for the last year, and choose to see the "Trend of unresolved issues", which would tell you what you need to know.
