From where sequence the jira issue fields in the required order. I have checked the screen but seems it is not the right place. Also I have checked the issue layout but somehow the existing issue fields are not matching/following the sequence as per the issue layout of that project. Please help what I am missing.

It sounds like you're trying to organize Jira issue fields in a specific order but aren't seeing the expected results in the issue view. Here are some potential steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check the Issue Layout Configuration

  • Go to the project settings for the relevant project.
  • Navigate to "Issue Layout" under the project's settings.
  • Ensure the fields are ordered as desired in the layout.
  • Keep in mind that the layout you configure here applies to the project and issue type.

2. Field Context and Screens

  • The screens associated with an issue type control which fields are available during the creation, edit, and view operations.
  • Go to "Screens" in the Project Settings or the global Jira settings.
  • Verify that the correct fields are associated with the screens used by the issue type in question.
  • Ensure that the screens have the fields in the correct order.

3. Field Configuration Scheme

  • Check the Field Configuration Scheme assigned to the project.
  • Ensure the fields are visible and properly configured. Hidden fields in the configuration might not appear in the issue view or behave as expected.

4. Edit the Context of Custom Fields

  • If some of the fields are custom fields, check their contexts under Jira Administration → Issues → Custom Fields.
  • Ensure the custom fields are configured correctly and linked to the appropriate screens and issue types.

5. Advanced Roadmaps or Other Customizations

  • If you're using Advanced Roadmaps or other Jira apps, additional configurations might be overriding the display.
  • Double-check any app-specific settings.

6. Caches or Updates Not Taking Effect

  • Sometimes changes may not reflect immediately due to caching or sync delays. Try refreshing the browser or clearing its cache.
  • If you’ve made recent changes and still don’t see the updates, consider checking for browser-specific issues.

7. Verify Permissions

  • Make sure you have the appropriate permissions to edit layouts, screens, or field configurations for the project.

8. Check for Team-managed Project

  • If this is a team-managed project (instead of a company-managed project), the configuration process is different:
    • Go to Project Settings → Issue Types.
    • Select the issue type and arrange the fields in the desired order.

If you've checked all of the above and still don't see the expected field order, it may be worth reaching out to Atlassian Support to ensure no system-level restrictions or bugs are affecting the behavior.
