I am having trouble enabling an administrator user to add a new project

Ben Pettifer June 19, 2012

I have added the user to the administrators group, as documented here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRASTUDIO/Adding+New+Projects

However, when they login and go to the project administration page, the "+ Add Project" button does not appear.

One of the differences that I have spotted between my user and the other user, is that they are a Google user and I am just a Jira user.

I found a page in the confluence help documentation about granting Google users admin rights (https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRASTUDIO/Managing+Users+with+Google+Apps+Integration#ManagingUserswithGoogleAppsIntegration-Grantingadministrationrights), however, when logging in to Google Apps, the 'Allow USER to administer YOURDOMAIN' button as seen in the screenshot is not available. This may be a red herring, so any suggestions about how to enable a user to add a new project will be appreciated.

Hi Ben, I'm not exactly sure why this could be happening, however as a first attempt I'd check the application access of your instance to check whether you was granted with access in all of the applications which are currently running in your environment. It's common to see this kind of behavior (can not add new projects) caused by this type of problem. For the OnDemand instances, only who has access to all applications can create projects.

Hope it helps!

We are indeed using an OnDemand instance. That makes a lot of sense, since creating a new project will affect all applications. Granting the user access to all the applications solved the problem, thank you.
