When I first set up the Jira account I used my org name but about an hour later I changed this to my client's org name so this now makes up the org name across the products/groups and the URL is 'theirorgname.atlassian.net' which is great.
However Atlassian said that the url 'myorgname.atlassian.net' will redirect to 'theirorgname.atlassian.net'.
I don't want that to happen - I should not have used my orgname when I registered, and I want it to be free in case later, I set up a Jira account for my own purposes.
Bearing in mind we are on a free account (no support) how do I ensure this redirect is stopped?

Tks

Hi @Bill Ward

I understand that you renamed your cloud site and now you want to delete that old site name from redirecting to your current site name.  I did some research on the topic and found out more about what is involved in a change like this from our side.

Since free only plans cannot create the support ticket for this process, I think the best course of action at this point would be to create backups of your existing data, and then Cancel your site's subscription as a means to delete that Atlassian Cloud site.

Deleting the site will also delete the redirect.  At that point you could then re-create that site with the site-name of your choosing.

If this was a paid plan site, there might be another means to do this, however it's not without technical risks and requires a support ticket so that the support team can reach out to other internal teams for approval.  The process can take quite some time to complete.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Bill Ward

If you don't want the site to redirect I would recommend you get in touch with the Atlassian Support team, since changing the site name is a major change and the redirection is done so that the previous users aren't impacted, but if you're confident the previous url isn't used the old URL freeing should be feasible from the backend by Atlassian's technical team: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

Thank you for your help with this. There is no user issue here as the changes were made about an hour later before any projects were set up.

Is it possible to raise a support ticket when on a free plan?

Yes, you should be able to raise a support ticket on the free plan too.

I've tagged for Atlassian assistance on this thread too just in case you're unable to raise a ticket at your end.
