How to measure velocity in the kanban projects?

Deleted user September 26, 2018

Hello,

In Jira, you can only measure velocity and see burndown chart for the Scrum-based projects. From the methodology standpoint, it makes sense as the scrum based framework is the completion of work within a certain timeframe.

On the other hand, the Kanban-based approach is about the priority-based flow of tasks.

I was wondering if there is an existing app that can measure velocity for a Kanban team within a certain time frame. Or,

What are the other ways to measure velocity and create a burndown chart for a kanban project?

Hi @[deleted] ,

You can measure the velocity and have a burndown chart for your Kanban project by using  our Great Gadgets add-on (available for both Jira Server and Jira Cloud).

It offers a "Kanban Velocity" and "Release Burndown Burnup" dashboard gadgets that are based on a filter. All you have to do is to create a filter that includes the issues from your project(s).

More details about how to configure it can be found in the add-ons documentation:

Hi @Sheena Malayath,

It is free only if you have Jira free license (up-to 10 users). Otherwise, you can start with a 1-month of free trial.

Hey there Tawhid, as you are probably aware, this is not currently possible in JIRA Software, but do have a feature request for this here - JSWSERVER-15617.

I'd highly recommend you to Vote for and Watch the ticket, so that you would get notified whenever there are any updates to the request :)

Thank you for the reply Joe. Is the request only for Jira server?
