How to maintain workflow canvas layout after cloud - cloud migration

When we migrate a project from instance A > instance B via the cloud migration wizard-thingy it seems to work well, except for the part that the workflow canvast is totally messed up. The status transitions are all OK, but the workflow is not readable anymore (and for larger flows it is not easy to make it right again we noticed). 

It feels like a bug to me in the migration process.

Is there a way to properly copy the canvas layout to the target project as how it was in the source project ?

Yes, you are right about that and unfortunately, no, there is no way to maintain the canvas during migration. The issue does not only happen in cloud to cloud migrations, but also in server to cloud. For the latter, there is an improvement request that you can track here: MIG-217. Here is the corresponding known issue for cloud to cloud migrations: CLOUD-11458.
