How to change the fields in the 'Create' dialog of an issue?

Frederik Vanhaelst November 6, 2024

Hi all,

I have a company based project.

When creating an issue I want a predefined text in the Description field.
I've added a custom field 'Description' with predefined text:

Q1: In team based projects I was able to make this predefined text 'bold'. In company based projects it seems not possible?

Q2: How I can get rid of the original Description field in the Create Dialog Box and replace it by my custom field 'Description'? Via Project settings > Issues > Layout I can remove the original one and replace it by the customized one but that's only on the issue page itself, not in the Create dialogue box:

On the issue page itself I have configured that I see only the customized Description field. How to configure this also in the Create dialog box?

Hello @Frederik Vanhaelst

Q2: You must update the Screen used for the Create Issue operation. That can be done only by a Jira Administrator.

Go to the Project Settings and select Issues, then Screens. That will show you the Issue Type Screen Scheme, showing the issues types associated to each Screen Scheme. Example:

Click on the expansion arrow next to the Screen Scheme that applies to the issue types you want to affect. That will show you the Screen associated to each operation. Example:

The screen associated to the Create Issue operation will need to be modified.

However as shown above that screen might be used by multiple issue types in the project. You have to decide if you want to affect all the listed issue types. If not, you will have to make a copy of the screen to modify, add it to a new Screen Scheme, and add that new Screen Scheme into the Issue Type Screen Scheme mapping it to the issue types you want to affect.

Additionally you have to consider if the Screen Scheme is used in other Issue Type Screen Schemes, and if the current project's Issue Type Screen Scheme is used by other projects. If so, then changes you make will affect other projects.
