Hi Atlassian Community,

I am planning to migrate data from Asana to Jira and need advice on the best approach. My main requirements are:

  1. Migrating tasks, subtasks, comments, and attachments.
  2. Mapping fields between Asana and Jira accurately.
  3. Automating the migration process as much as possible.

Does anyone have experience with a similar migration?

  • Are there tools or apps you recommend for automation?
  • Any tips or scripts you could share to simplify the process?
  • Challenges I should watch out for during the migration?

Your insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance! 😊

We have tried migration by Inbuilt Asana importer, and it works with below Findings

All the tickets were migrated with attachments (pdf, xlsx, docx, txt, png, JPG)
New custom fields were created on Jira for the customfields from Asana
Users were migrated and a license was assigned on Jira when migrate users was selected.
Issue hierarchy was preserved (tasks & sub-tasks)
All the comments on a task were migrated

Default workflow in a Jira project will be updated with the status from Asana if it's missing on Jira

However it have limitation - Task history from Asana will not be migrated.

Looking for options to migrate Audit logs, issue history as well, Kindly help if any experience around same.

Thanks!

Looks like developing a custom solution is the only way around the limitation.

HI @Utkarsh Agarwal

You could use the Asana importer, provided by Atlassian.

Hi @Utkarsh Agarwal ,

Try Getint, an app developed by an Atlassian Platinum Vendor and Asana Partner. Our tool is trusted by Atlassian teams to facilitate seamless migrations from Asana to Jira.

With Getint, you can migrate your data while also integrating both tools simultaneously.

This means you don’t have to settle for a one-time migration. Instead, you can enjoy a transition period where the systems are integrated, allowing you to migrate gradually and train your team to use Jira effectively.

Here’s how it works:

1.Start by integrating projects, followed by types, fields, and values.

2.It seamlessly migrates subtasks, statuses, attachments, and comments, ensuring nothing is left behind.

To help you prepare for a successful migration, I’ve created this comprehensive guide:
