How do you use the Burn down/Burn up chart?

Hell, my team is very new to using Jira and we are struggling with our metrics. My developers typically take our product owners story, then they add their sub task or task to it. We like to estimate in days, and use our story point to  reflect such. However it looks like when they add time(4hours, 1 day )etc to a task it does not burn down when they complete the task/subtask until the entire story is closed.

Is there a better way to get our task/subtask to burn down and show progress as my team completes them?

Hi @Angela Williams,

Story Points on sub-tasks are not included in the Burnup/Burndown Chart. (Only Story Points on parent tasks are included.) and the Burnup/Burndown  Chart only applies to Scrum boards.

I understand that. To be more clear how do I get our task or sub task to show in the burn down or burn up chart? When my team completes a task or sub task we would like to that as progress in the chart.

I have encountered the same problem as you. However, in the official documentation, the time progress of the subtask will not be counted in the total burndown time, and the completion time of the subtask will not be displayed on the burndown map. My solution is to select the Remaining Estimate and Time Spent option under the Time Tracking property under the Estimation property in the panel. In doing so, you can see the completion time of the subtask, and the total time is the parent task time plus the subtask time.
