How do you import a csv into tickets?

Paul Spaeth November 13, 2019

Please point me in the right direction - I should have admin access for my company's Jira. Thank you

I've looked at this document and it's almost impossible to find simple instructions, this is where I'm told to go but can't find this:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/importing-data-from-csv-938847533.html

Select Administration > System > Import & Export > External System Import.

@Paul Spaeth

You are correct. You must be a system-admin in order to use the CSV import feature.

Here are the steps:

1.) Prepare a csv file with all the required field against that issue type (user story, task, bug etc).  You can use MS excel and save it as csv file.

2.)  Go to issues--> Click on Import issues from CSV

3.) Set up --> Upload the csv file prepared in step1--> Click on next

4.) Settings -->

a.) Select the project where you want to import the issues of csv file.

b.) File encoding UTF-8

c.) Delimiter  (comma)

d.) Date Format - Don't change the default value

5.) Map Fileds -->

Jira fileds needs to mapped with csv fields and check the check-box against "Map Filed Values" as applicable.

6.) Map Values -->

Please do verification of everything is mapped correctly.

7.) Click on "Validate" button to get the error/warnings (if any)

8.) Click on "Begin Import" button to start the import.

Search for those issues using JQL to check if everything got imported properly.

Please accept this answer if this helps You.

Thanks,

GP

Thanks. I am a "Site Admin" . Do I need to have a higher permission?

Also, where do I find this? What section should I be in to find "Issues"? Of course within my project there's "Issues and Filters" in the left menu bar.

2.)  Go to issues--> Click on Import issues from CSV

Never mind looks like I found it!

Is there a csv template I can use to be sure I'm formatting things correctly? I seem to be getting a lot of errors.

Paul,

Confirm that you're a jira admin as it's clear if you're, you should be able to do so.
