How do I switch my backlog detail to open a popup window vs. the sidebar? I tried searching and the answers from 2020 don't help.
Hi @Schott, Sarah E and welcome!
As far as I know, the backlog view is now sidebar-only. This means that you can't switch between popup and sidebar in the backlog view, therefore the issues are always displayed in the sidebar. However, you can still switch the view if you are on a board.
The quickest way to open an issue in the backlog in full-screen is to right-click on an issue's key and open the link in a new tab in your browser.
Hope this helps!
I cannot express how much I hate this. 99% of the time we want to open the issue in full and it's the most annoying thing to have to work around.
I hate the issue detail side bar.
There is a hyper link on the description. I expect a hyperlink to open a tab if I middle click it. You folks bock that. What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Why would you block expected functionality on a browser?

More on this. At the moment it is not possible to open the issue in full at all.
In order to do that we have to open the sidebar (select the issue) then from the sidebar click the link at the top to open in a new tab. Every time. 2 mouse clicks far appart from one another. Why?!?

Same here. Stories needs to be review in a much larger space than is available in the sidebar. Please make it configurable or at least make it dependent on what the user clicks in the backlog:
- click on id: Popup
- click on header link: sidebar
.. or vice versa.
I've seen a lot of complaints regarding this and I don't understand why such an essential feature is still missing. If you do a Spring planning, opening stories is most of the work to do. That should be as efficient as possible!

@cpirtea It is possible to open link in new tab, if you click on the Issue number and not on the title.
On Mac in Safari:
- CMD + left click on issue number opens new tab with the story in background
- CMD + SHIFT + left click on issue number opens new tab in foreground
Hope this helps.
