I have a Task that exists under an Epic within a project. Now within the same project, I need to move the Task to another Epic within the same project.
How do I do this?
You should be able to edit the task and change the value of the Epic Link to the New Epic.
If you are using an Agile board, you will be able to drag&drop the Task from one Epic to another.
Hi
I am not using a an agile board, i am in the Task itself.
Can you please explain the process to edit the task and change the value of the Epic Link?

Navigate to the Task and click on he edit button. On the edit screen you will see a field called as Epic (if not available reach out to your admin to have it added). you can used this field to search for the epic you want to associate with the task.

This option doesnt seem to exist. As described doesnt work.
If someone who is looking for a reassign or move option cant find it... its too hard

As it turns out with hunting around on the internet. YOu can drag and drop taskes from one epic to another from the spring view. Whilst this may be a nice/great option. If you are not in a sprint/backlog view, and you are inside a task and release, i want to reassign to x, you cant. There is NO OPTION to do this. Only to chnage type of task or move project. The old documentation/correct answers in forum is misleading. Take it down or correct it and save our time please.

@Phil Soady - any luck ?
Seems odd to me as this seems to be only a link between 2 issues ? but I am struggling to move issue as well...

AFAIK the Current and only way is the SPRINT / Backlog view. Drag and drop there is the ONLY way I found to move a task to a different EPIC. Easy enough but useless when inside task and you notice the epic is wrong...

Thanks @Phil Soady Actually, for my case (re-assigning a story to a different Epic) the EpicLink field was missing from the screen attached to the "edit" operation in the Screen Scheme.
Oddly enough, it was displayed only
Might help you ?

At time of writing, it's:
Actions (...) > Change Parent
Wasn't obvious to me at all, but now I know it, I'll always remember.

In a Next-Gen project (from the Board or Roadmap), select the task and in the edit panel, choose the More button (...) and choose Change parent. Then search for the EPIC to which you want to reassign the task.
It would be nice if the Roadmap let you drag and drop the task to where you wanted it, but that's how it is. Same with reordering the tasks: You have to edit the Epic and then you can re-arrange them. Not terribly "next gen". On the Board, you can drag and drop to rearrange tasks; just not on the Roadmap.

I have a 2022 update for this question! Per this release, I have found the way to move a story to a new epic from the story view is to open "More Fields" below the story Details, then open the Epic Link and assign/reassign there.
Story View/ More Fields (below story Details)/ Epic Link

For those not using a SCRUM based board but are using the new 'next-gen' layout, you can 'Change Parent' on a task that is assigned to an epic to re-assign to another epic that exits.
Alas, you can not set to no epic (yet).
You can also as mentioned above 'Move' the issue to the same project as a task, story, bug, etc... and it will remove all links at that time including an epic parent. (only happens in a 'next-gen' project, classic copies the epic link :( )
I have attached the 2 menu options here for clarity.
Change Epic option on Issue
Move Issue to sample project
