How do I link tasks to epic via csv?

Rohan Agnihotri October 28, 2024

  • Import Process: I am attempting to import tasks into Jira and want them linked to an existing epic (IT-7).

  • CSV Format: I Believe that it is in the correct format

  • Jira Settings: The epic (IT-7) exists in the project and is configured correctly as an epic issue type.

  • Import Logs: The logs show that the tasks were created successfully, but they do not indicate any linking to the epic.
    Any help would be appreciated

Hello @Rohan Agnihotri

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Are the new issues being imported to the same project where the Epic exists?

Into what type of project are you importing the data? Get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

Are you using a configuration file for the import or mapping fields manually?

How are you mapping the Epic Link field in the CSV to a Jira Field? Which Jira field are you mapping the CSV Epic Link field to?

Hi @Trudy Claspill

Yes the issues are being imported to the same project,

No config file is being used, its being imported manually,

Below is a screen shot of how the mapping is being done

That is mapping specific values.

I am asking about how you map the fields in the CSV to Jira fields.

Oh sorry about that, I have it mapped to the corresponding value in the csv

According to this unresolved issue, it is not possible to link an issue to an Epic through a CSV import for a Team Managed project.

Yes, it would work in a Company Managed project.

Note that "Epic Link" is a field that was only used in Company Managed projects. Atlassian is working to sunset that field and switch to using Parent instead, since Parent is what Team Managed projects use.
