How do I convert a task into an epic?

Say I have a task I want to convert into an epic-level item. Is there a way to convert it directly without creating a new epic to assign it to?

You can select the task, click the (...), select 'move', and select the 'epic' issue type:

Correct, but vague. By select task you mean open the task to show details. And, Jira has lots of triple-dot (...) menus. For this operation, it's the one next to the task details close button which is in upper right corner.
