ollowing the instructions on the articles I read, for the sprint field in detail view I see the below with nowhere to click. Is it because something is standardized?
----
This project uses 2 screen configurations.

These 4 issue types…

xXXX: Kanban Default Issue Screen
You have to descend into each of the screens in order to add fields to them.
Sprint is not on display by default, because a Scrum board, by its very nature, displays things in the current sprint, and groups by it in the backlog (that's what a backlog is for!). Kanban boards do not show it because sprints are a Scrum artefact, they're not used in Kanban.
How do I descend into a screen? What my screenshot shows is all I can do - there's nothing further to click on the default screen scheme.
So in order to see sprint in the JIRA details pane - I'd need to change the overall project to be a Scrum board? We currently use the kanban board for overall project view, and a kanban board of the current active sprint -- as well as the backlog for sprint planning, but just hard to adjust the sprint when looking at the issue by itself without having to do the extra step of going to the backlog to check the sprint its in. Do you have any suggestions?

When you look at an issue type screen scheme, it has links to go down into the screen scheme for that issue type. When you go into a screen scheme, it will show you what screens are in use for create, view and edit (and a default for when you don't change the others). You can click on those screens to go into them and edit their fields.
If you do not have these links, then you are either

Okay I am an admin and cannot click into the screens -- I do see on the project that it says "company-managed project", would that be why?

No, company-managed projects use schemes. If you can't get into the screens then you are not a Jira admin (you may be a project admin, but they can't amend screens or schemes)

Okay, so none of these admin rights mean I'm a JIRA admin? How do I become one?

I am confused now - that screenshot is of the people management screen in a team-managed project.
In a team-managed project, you amend what the fields are by going into the issue type configurations.

Yeah - I'm not familiar so I'm not entirely sure. The left panel at the bottom says company managed project but the project itself is a team-managed project? Where would I go to find the issue type configurations? Is it the screens we went to in my original request? Those were uneditable for me.

You have somehow ended up looking at two different projects!
I think I have seen that happen when clicking through to try to admin a project a couple of times, but I've never seen a pattern to it. I also tend to work in 2-3 tabs, so it may be something to do with that.
You will need to get an existing admin to make you an admin (add your account to the right groups), or get them to make the changes to your screens.

KANBAN board doesn't have a sprint field. In order to add the Sprint field you must have a SCRUM board.

Okay - I was able to add the sprints to the card view within the Kanban, just can't on the details pane/ if you're only looking at your one issue/story. We have multiple sprints inside a broader release - so in order to see sprint in the JIRA details pane - I'd need to change the overall project to be a Scrum board?
