How do I add images to my custom field?

Zach Gonzalez October 19, 2018

In the latest version of Jira I cannot add images to my custom field. I'm trying to add a severity category. When I try to use html it shows up like this:test.jpg

Hi @Zach Gonzalez,

Looks to me like your missing a / from the end html tag.

Should be something like:

<img src="http://yoursite/blahblahblah.png"/>

Let me know if that helps.

Regards,

Gary

Thank you for the response. However, that did not resolve the issue. Now it displays:

<img src="http://yoursite/blahblahblah.png"/>AA- Blocker

Instead of displaying the images.

Hi @Zach Gonzalez,

Are you a system admin on your instance?

Check the setting:

Enable HTML in custom field descriptions and list item values

Under Cog >General Configuration.

Gary

This needs to be ON

Zach Gonzalez October 23, 2018

@Gary Pasquale - Really appreciate the responses Gary. I am full system admin on our Jira cloud. Under General Configuration there is no option for "Enable HTML in custom field descriptions and list item values." Also I do not see an option for this in "advance settings" either.

Is there another setting somewhere to enable this?

Hi @Zach Gonzalez,

Ah, your Jira Cloud.

I believe that's the issue. There are security restrictions on using HTML and JavaScript in issue fields.

See - Functional differences in Jira Cloud products

It does mention trying wiki markup. So give [the display text|url] a go.

Gary

Hi @Zach Gonzalez,

How did you get on?

Zach Gonzalez October 25, 2018

@Gary Pasquale - Not sure wiki markup works either. Is there a way to upload images to Jira Cloud that we can reference?

Hi @Zach Gonzalez,

Afraid not. That's the limitation of Cloud.

That's one of the reasons we use the server variant of Jira. More flexibility for customisations. Cloud is restrictive.

Please accept my answer if it has helped you in any way. Thanks :)

Gary

What I did was add an emoji image, directly; with copy and paste 👍 ... etc.

A most EXCELLENT workaround. Kudos.

Sound like a great workaround - but does it also work for Cloud - I cannot paste any emoji images....

Try using emojipedia site to copy paste.
