I have a custom field that includes dropdown value options; I forget how to add a new value to the list.  Please advise.  Thx, Dave

Hi @David Rucktaschel

You'll need to be a Site Admin - then follow these steps:

  • Go to the Jira Settings cog icon (lower-left corner on the navigation bar)
  • Select Issues > Custom Fields
  • Locate your custom field, press the options button (3-dots) and choose Configure
  • Press Edit Options in the configuration screen and add your new options

Hi Stephen - Thank-you for your prompt reply.  Now I know why I was confused; the organization I work for has created an Agile/JIRA Administration team and I no longer have Site Admin rights.  Thx, Dave

which is a ridiculous set-up. We have the same. I have project admin access but not Jira admin access. EVERY TIME I need to amend the possible values in a drop-down list, I have to raise a ticket and wait for the Jira team to do the change. In the meantime, things get stuck.. This should be configurable at project level by project admins!

Older comments and solutions did not get me what I needed. Here's how I was able to change the values in my Custom Field.

Admin Role needed

  1. Gear wheel
  2. Issues
  3. Custom Fields
  4. Find your field
  5. Click the three dots
  6. Select "Contexts and default value"
  7. Edit options

I had to find the "Contexts and default value" option to change all value options. When I went to Edit Details, I was unable to perform this action. Not very user friendly in my opinion.
