How can I use underscores in my project keys e.g. PRODUCT_2024

Karlheinz Graf May 17, 2024

According to the official documentation you can change the key format with a Perl5 regular expression. Unfortunately, this setting cannot be found in my settings. I viewed this with my JIRA admin, who has all rights.

What do I have to do to get my Jira Admin to get this missing setting?

Instructions:

To change the project key format in JIRA Software Cloud to allow underscores, you need to be a JIRA admin and follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the JIRA Advanced settings page.
  2. Find the jira.projectkey.pattern property and click its value to modify it.
  3. Enter a Perl5 regular expression value that defines the rule for a valid project key1. For example, if you want to allow underscores, you could use a pattern like [A-Z][A-Z0-9_]*.

Since a possible development of this useful feature depends on the strength of the customer request, I ask all those who read this question in the community here and find the feature useful to also vote and watch on the feature request: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-23997

Thank you.

Hi there.

Your tags suggest that you are using Jira Cloud. If that is the case, this is not possible. You can see more information on this here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-42174

Thank your your answer.

Please look at: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-23997

I also support this idea. We are planning to handle several hundred projects with Jira, which we simply have to structure a little, otherwise chaos will ensue. A hierarchical mapping of the units and programs in the form of a project key (separated with an underscore) is therefore more than useful, just as it was possible on premise.

Understood. My suggestion would be to vote, watch, and comment on that and hopefully it will gain some traction.
